Nowadays, natural (or wild) pearls are very rare, and their collection is often restricted because of the environmental damage it can cause. The best pearls available today are cultured pearls, formed in pearl farms and these are the ones we use in our jewellery.
The unique lustre of pearls depends upon the reflection, refraction, and diffraction of light from the translucent layers. The thinner and more numerous the layers in the pearl, the finer the lustre. The iridescence that pearls display is caused by the pearl oyster overlapping successive layers of nacre over the implant. Nacre is made up of silk-like proteins which break up the light falling on the surface. The very best pearls have a metallic mirror-like lustre. Cultured pearls use the response of the shell to a tissue or bead implant usually made from oyster shell to begin producing nacre over the top of it.
Our pearl jewellery collection has items for all ages, budgets and styles and is often gifted to mark a special birthday or occasion. The birthstone for June birthdays and traditionally gifted to celebrate 30 years of marriage or partnership, our pearl jewellery collection features timeless pieces with guaranteed quality.
